You can now have anything done to the lower end you want, slightly larger pistons if you have the block bored larger, etc...........
First, fire the "mechanic". When you hear "head gasket", you should always think "Cracked head and/or block". No, you shouldn't even try to fix it -- buy a used engine from a junkyard (you can hear it run before you buy it) and install it instead. Cheaper, and much less risk.
usually heads are the first to crack, it couldn't hurt to perform an inspection of the block for any obvious issues, but I dont think you'll find anything.
Just inspect the block.
Should do it anyway.
Look at cylinders, look for damage/scoring.
Look at pistons.
Idk I need some points just buy a new one
I bought a 2000 explorer xls (4.0l v6 OHV) with a blown head gasket. at least, thats what the mechanic's diagnosis was. So i took it all apart down to the head gasket, and took the cylinder heads to be shaved. Turns out the cylinder heads were both cracked along the mounting holes and in one of the ports. So should i rip the whole block out to see if it is cracked or am i safe to assume it isn't?
