Changing brake caliper - in my car -?

The brake caliper could have seized meaning the piston doesn't slide smoothly causing the pad to possible rub against the rotor. This could be caused by the age of your car and the mileage.

If you don't replace it soon it could possibly ruin your rotor and pad. In all honesty it would be A LOT cheaper to just replace it yourself. Remanufactured calipers are not expensive. The hoses do not need to be changed.

I am ordering new front calipers for my 2004 BMW with 117,000 miles. I'm also ordering new rotors and pads because the calipers ruined my current ones. It is not hard to replace and I have done it before. Just look it up online and you'll find directions. You just need some basic tools and a jack to lift up the front of your car.

I have saved myself hundreds of dollars by doing my own maintenance. BMW is an expensive car to maintain.

A caliper isn't too hard to change. One half is on one side of the rotor and the other half is on the other side of the rotor so there is a couple bolts holding the two halves together. I imagine there are also some bolts on the back side of the rotor connecting the caliper to the car. The brake line screws into the caliper so you just unscrew that - simple enough. I guess you could remove the old caliper and put the new one in with the old brake pad. After installing it, you have to bleed the brake on that side to get all the air bubbles out. Just unloosen the pip on the caliper. Get someone to pump the brake pedal a few times. When it starts squirting out fluid and not air, then tighten the pip back down - while the dude in the car keeps his foot on the pedal since the last time he pumped it. Add a couple of ounces of brake fluid to the master cylinder. Good luck.

any good shop will recommend both sides being done. so its hard to say exactly how much bu ti suspect from 150-400. they will mark up the price of the parts and charge a ton in labor
