As battery and alternator are good it leaves solenoid on starter motor as potential culprit. Do check all connections are clean and tight as corrosion or poor contact can cause high resistance and less power from battery to start.
If starter spears ok ..as jump starting ever time would tend to indicate solenoid is in fact ok..then we more likely have battery voltage issue. Do we have a parasitic power drain?
Here a good garage can check for this as well as check starter motor and solenoid. The one click is normally a sign solenoid has been actuated but not enough power to operate starter motor.
I had this once many years ago and despite battery alternator cable changes still got no cranking intermittently.
Turned out to be a field coil on starter motor not gettingower at times depending where it finished cranking..unlikely u will have dame issue.
Take the 12 volt battery to any store that sells new ones *other than Auto Zone. Ask for a free 15 second battery *load test to see what the reserve amperage capacity is. Amperage spins starter motors not volts.
If the battery is OK, a trusted private mechanic or dealer of the car will do a starter amperage draw test which will tell the "health" of the starter.
When a new fully charged battery has been installed, touch the battery terminals with an inexpensive volt meter set @ 20 volts *with the engine running. IF the alternator is charging properly, the volt meter will read between 13.5 - 14.2 volts.
Take your car to one of the big box automotive stores and get them to check your charging system. If the Alternator and Battery check out, and the battery cables are corrosion free and tight, then I would say your starter solenoid is bad.
Starter...??? How old are your spark plug wires? I had a car that would start intermittently when it rained or was damp out. I found out the dampness was seepingin to the wires and shorting them. I changed them all out and never had that problem again.
Have battery and charging system tested. Also check battery connections, you may have corrosion. Light coat of grease inside and out when you clean off will keep them tidy and good.
Hello. A few days ago, I was out and my car didn't want to start. I used jumper cables and a friend helped me jump start my car. It worked. The next day my car was working fine. Then today as I was going to leave my house, my car didn't want to start again.
When it doesn't start, it makes one click sound when I turn the key all the way. I keep trying and it keeps making that click sound each time. All my electronics in my car turn on and everything.
I had the alternator changed in 2012 and the battery is new. Only a few months old.
Can anyone give my ideas as to what can be wrong? Thank you.
