It's normal. Set the parking brake before putting the transmission in park and the mechanism won't jam and be hard to get out of park.
sounds like possible issues with the "PARKING PAWL"
This is a lever that is applied to a geared portion of transmission output to lock wheels. Generally the forward clutch drum. my advice is never trust park again until this is repaired. Always set your brake and as soon as possible get to a qualified transmission specialist for repair and advice on parking habits.
One big one I've dealt with is folks who bump those cement blocks in parking spaces. stop short of them. the tire is actually pushing back on the parking pawl making shift out of park difficult.
There could be a bulletin or recall for this issue.
You must say what you are working on.
These guesses on here are pretty helpful, but not when the manufacturer may be sending the letters to the previous owner.
I say use your parking brake, and do a recall and TSB search at your dealer.
Ask them to try it.
See if it is normal or not.? shift cable issue ? park gear issue?
pawl? SPRING ?
It is NOT "normal" for a car to roll "some feet" after putting it in park. Some inches, maybe. Yes, you should always use the parking brake whenever you park.
No. Maybe a few inches, but nothing even close to one foot.
Sometimes when I park my car, when I release the brakes, the car rolls a little bit before blocking (some feet). Is it normal?
Then sometimes shifting from park is hard and the transmission jerks. Is it normal?
Should I set the parking brake (e-brake)?
