Car overheating and shuddering?

Start by getting a new radiator cap.You shouldn't see vapor leaking out the cap at anytime. If your cap is loose you will loose coolant and your engine will over heat rather quickly. Those symptoms are from the engine over heating.Try the cap first though,it could be an easy fix.Good luck!

Have you checked if you have much Oil in your engine?, I had a problem similar problem with the coolant, every time i'd put it in, it would run out after 2-3 days :S, once i changed the brand of coolant it was all sorted.

check 1: first check your oil and look for any signs of water droplets on the stick. if you see signs of water on the stick drive the car to the nearest junk yard

if the oil and oil level check out move to check 2

check 2: while engine is cold fill radiator AND reserve to the top with plain water, start the car and observe for 10 minutes, really look for leaks, try to find one, if you find a leak you found the problem, if not and the engine light comes on and starts over heating it could be a cheap thermostat (DIY), also, if the reserve starts to bubble there is a possibility your pump going bad or has already gone bad.

ps. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE AN OVERHEATING VEHICLE. if you do you might as well just drive it to the junk yard

have the coolant leak diagnosed. Whats happening is your car is overheating and causing random misfires

Hi there,

My car's check engine light recently came on. I filled up the coolant full. When I'm at a stop sign I can feel my car shuddering is the best way to describe it. It'll be fine then the whole car will shake then stop. My check engine light came back on and I lifted up the hood and saw that all the coolant that I put into the car was all burned away, and it was smoking where the coolant goes. The engine was also smoking during this. What's wrong with it? Is it a blown head gasket? What did I do wrong to my car to make this happen?

Thanks
