Car brakes hard when downshifting into second?

You are going too fast for the gear you have selected I actually on a test drive accidentally down shifted a 300Zx into 2nd gear at around 60 to 65 and as the clutch was worn the friction material was thin and it actually threw the friction material off both sides of the clutch disk instantaneously. I found this out as I tried to take off at the exit ramp I immediately took when this happened. I was actually able to limp this car back to the shop I worked at on the brass rivets that once held the friction to the clutch disc. I do not recommend this. Although it did save a tow bill back to the shop I turned the flywheel and installed the new clutch and the car ran as it should. I read that if you have a 4x4 and have the transfer case in low gear you spin the clutch disk up to something like in excess of 14,000 rpm and no disk can withstand than kind of centrifugal force and survive. It also will probably destroy other parts of your drivetrain.

HI, sounds like your missing the Rev match by a little watch your tach and bump the RPM a little next time when going into 2nd from Nuterial when shifting down.. they'll slip out of gear before the RPM's match the next gear..

good luck

Interesting. I wonder if it has something to do with the gear ratios of your transmission. There may be quite the difference. Six speed? What car?

Try turning off the traction control and see if that is causing it

Your RPMs are too low for that gear.

Can I have more info on this?

Whenever I downshift (6 to 5 to 4 to 3) I rev match (tap the gas) before letting out the clutch and it's really smooth (without it the car jerks), but when I try to downshift from 3 to 2 on a corner or anywhere for that matter, I rev match the same way but the car brakes really hard on its own for a second and then it's fine. Am I doing something wrong?
