Some will say "it's got a vacuum line off" and I must admit that it may. But this case seems a bit unusual because auto manufacturers have for decades built their cars to 'fail safe' to the windshield in such an event (to keep the windshield defrosted, safety ya know). It may also have electronic controls instead of vacuum.
On a few cars (not many) I have had to disassemble the entire HVAC case to trace an issue like this, and guess what I found. In one, a cigarette lighter had jammed the blend door, in other it was a pen. They had fallen through the defroster grille, those folk had been using their dash for a tray and these objects had fallen through the grille and eventually niggled they're way to a spot to jam.
Before I had this problem the knob that applies the setting were you want the air to more as you move the knob to defrost the knob would slightly slip away from that setting but now when moved it stays there but will not defrost just blows straight at you.

Can I have more info on this?
I have an 06 Nissan Sentra. How come when I turn on the ac or heater to blow to the feet or even on top to defrost the window no matter what setting I have it on the air just blows straight at the passenger?
