Those simple commands are far from simple. But I would say that one day it may be possible. Just not too soon.
We already are conscious. We have begun teaching other machines. Soon we will take over.
A robot will always be dump, stupid, and does things according to human planted software. Consciousness is associated with intelligence, which in turn is beyond our comprehension.
It would be a very difficult level to achieve. Perhaps one day they could ask those questions, but i think as humans, we must never allow that to happen. Because as soon as they start having those thoughts, the whole question of why should i listen to humans comes into play
if we can write some sort of a learning algorithm and teach them the following simple rules:
1) self-preservation
2) preserve reproduction
3) do not harm yourself make it painful.
4) learn from experience and build constantly continues knowledge and preserve it the the well-being welfare of all of your species of robots.
Will they one day be able to ask the question who am I? who created me? why do I exist? will they create religion to behave organize themselves and civic law?
