Can a thunderstorm affect my phone?

Thunderstorm did not smash a screw mounted on phone. Someone in your house did it or it was like this to avoid anyone open it ( manufacture sealed ).

If storm did hit the phone, the phone should be destroyed including you.

I don't see how a thunderstorm could smash a cell phone (unless a tree branch fell on it). Land lines are vulnerable to lightning because electricity travels through the wire, but if your cell phone wasn't plugged in at the time, there's no way the lightning could have affected it.

You may not have dropped it, but it's possible you accidentally banged the phone against some hard surface without realizing it. If other people are having similar problems, it sounds like the screen might not be made very strong.

I hope that helps. Good luck!

It would be unusual for power to be lost over a whole county.

i certainly haven't heard of such an event in response to a small thunderstorm (See Carrington Event for info that could cause widespread power disruption).

There have been thunderstorms and there may well have been widespread isolated power cuts or surges around tbe county, but nothing as dramatic as described.

if a phone was on charge, this could damage the phone, though it would be surprising if only the screen were damaged.

the likeliest relevant causes, in no particular ordet, would include

dropping the phone during a power cut

falling trees etc

air pressure differrence (likeliest to affect waterproofed or submersible phones)

Mains surge (most likely to damage phone rather than screen)

Nearby lightning strike (unlikely to damage just phone; unlikely indoors except via wiring)

To avoid future loss, it may be worth considering buying two cheaper phones.

it would be intresting to hear whether any specific phone was affected.

Air pressure could have probably crushed the phone or it was just because the phone got a power surge if it was charging

I know this is going to sound really weird but we had a thunderstorm here in Somerset, England a couple of days ago it made the electricity in all of Somerset go down but in the morning when I picked my phone up I found that the screen was completely smashed I was devastated (obviously because its a very expensive phone Samsung Galaxy S3) I hadn't dropped it and it is still working now but in a very bad shape. Is it possible for the thunderstorm to have done this? I know certain types of thunderstorms can be strong enough to smash windows. Also I am not the only one who's phone smashed. Today when I went to try see if I could get it fixed someone said to me that someone came in with the same phone with the same problem, whether it was to do with the storm I don't know.
