Can a reset odometer be fixed?

Posted at: 2015-01-07
I wanted to buy a car but found out that it has a salvage title on it because the prior owner reset the odometer. Is there a way to have the odometer set to the right mileage?

Salvaged car title Means the car was totaled at some point in time I would pay far below min blue book for it

Depends on the year of the car You don't get a salvaged title for an odometer ? It would have a note about the incorrect reading The only time a salvaged title is issued if the damages exceeds the blue book value

Salvage title means the car can be repaired by you and still be legal so long as its drivable

If you buy a salvaged car and it has lots of problems You will never get your money back if you sold the vehicle I wouldn't buy it I have a degree in automotive and 35 yrs experience and I still wouldn't buy it

its probably a POS and your a sucker for buying it Make sure you check its blue book value chances are its not worth much in the first place Some one gave you some BS information why it was a salvaged title Its because the car was totaled to the tune of more then its value

Hope it helps

First off how would you know the correct mileage if the odometer has been reset. Nine out of ten times odometers that have been reset are of the cable to the transmission type. Not all new cars have digital odometers. The cable type can be changed by connecting a drill to the cable port on the back of the odometer and using it to spin the odometer to the desired setting. I would not buy a car that had the odometer messed with.

In the old days, odometers could be replaced and certificate attached that declared what the mileage was. Now odometers are just readouts of the computer. Should not be easily reset, and should not be reason for a salvage title. Strange and puzzling

Nowadays odometers are easily repaired by sending the entire speedometer cluster to: United Radio in Syracuse NY.

nope. stuck with whatever is on the odometer now.

Unfortunately there isn't. I would stay away from this one though, it seems like they're trying to trick you into making a poor purchase. Even though the price is probably enticing, try not to risk it.
