The big problem is that the broken end of the rod is still being thrashed around by the crankshaft. It won't take long at all for it to punch holes in the pan or block. When I was in aviation I saw an engine that had thrown a rod and the end of the rod hit the block just under the cylinder, breaking the crank away from the block. Think of it as being asked to walk up to the store when you have a compound fracture of your leg.
Running that engine with a broken rod is very risky. That needs to be repaired. I would not operate the engine.
Sure you can run it! Just look forward to pushing it.
Only if you're utterly stupid.
I heard a story of someone bought a car like that - the seller had removed a rod and piston completely, plus the spark plug, so it ran OK, but he hadn't removed the cams so there was still fuel mix going in the cylinder and crankcase. New owner noticed the missing spark plug and fitted one ... ka-boom!
No..dont even turn it over
I have a 2002 mustang gt with a broken rod. Would it be alright to run the car for short trips with the fuel injector plug taken out, temporarily until I drop in a new engine?
