alan is thinking of newer models. those old ones, you just need a pedal assembly, pop out the plug and mount it, cut your hole, etc. very very easy flywheel has got to be changed out, etc. ive done many early model swaps both directions for myself and for customers over the yrs.
even done a 4spd to 5 spd swap for my old 5.0. no computers, no hassle
This may not be a complete list, but it is a start.
transmission 5 sp used $1600
peddle bracket and peddles used $200
clutch pivot bracket used $90
Modify console or floor boot $45
A newer camero may need the computer program changed $200
probably a different driveshaft $250
safety switches rewiring of back up lights etc. $125
It is possible, but I agree you might be better off getting a 5 speed car. The older your camero the easier it would be.
jim has a lot of useful info with the exception of pricing way off.. but i guess it depends on where you live. don't forget the tranni cross member may have to be moved. it might be easier or better to find one that's already a manual and take the two cars and make one good one.
don't even try.. all you will do is screw up and ruin the car .. it will never be rite. everything from bumper to bumper must be changed. the car will be absolutely worthless when your finished. best bet is to trade it off on something you want.
I would like to know how much it will cost to swap my camaro to a five speed... I cant stand automatics :)
