Accidentally smelled anti freeze?

You should be fine as long as you don't drink it.

Dave is right! just a reassurance!

Antifreeze is not as poisonous as legend has it, and the fumes are not toxic at all. Ethylene glycol metabolizes through a formaldehyde phase so drinking several grams of it can raise the risk of kidney damage. It is not cumulative - within a day it has completely cleared from your system.

Antifreeze fumes are not poisonous. You should definitely be more worried about the fact that your car blew up. That's gonna be an expensive fix.

Not poisonous fumes

I was driving on the freeway and all of a sudden I started smelling a horrible stench in my car. It was very strong but I shrugged it off. I noticed a liquid splattered on my windshield from the engine and all of a sudden my engine started smoking. I pulled over. When my husband came he said the engine over heated and what I was smelling was the antifreeze. Is this bad? I'm starting to over worry myself because I had my kids in the car too. Will anything happen? I feel ok other than worrying sick over anti freeze poisoning.
