8k mile oil change interval with synthetic motor oil?

I have a 2000 Nissan altima with only 60k miles on it and I use castrol edge extended performance and a fram ultra synthetic filter, would I be able to do 8k mile oil change intervals?

Oil doesn't "wear out". Back in the days when engine oil was cheap, it was easier to just change oil when it got dirty... like every 3000 miles. These days when a good quality synthetic oil can cost upwards of $10 per liter, it makes sense to extend the time between oil changes as far as they can go without damaging the engine. Our heavy diesel trucks used to run 25,000 to 30,000 miles between oil and filter changes.

As long as you are using good quality engine oil and filters, I wouldn't have a problem running up to 10,000 miles on an oil change. Since my cars don't get that kind of miles any more, I change my oil every 6 months just to flush out built up acids and contaminants.

See what the owner's manual says. If the synthetic really is good quality then it can hold up a bit longer. Lab tests show after a few thousand miles Mobil 1 is better for the engine than brand new conventional oil for example.

It's surprising people are so hard set on outdated BS traditions over scientific testing that they won't even believe a professional truck driver. Their oil is constantly sent off to labs so they know exactly how long it lasts. But trucks have exceptional filters so follow your owner's manual to find out what's right for your particular car.

No one can tell you if that's ok without asking how you drive your vehicle. Oil life is dependent on HOW you drive and how long you drive. You can't just arbitrarily make up your own oil change intervals. Read this post on when to change oil

That might be pushing it, but yes under normal driving conditions. Changing every 5 to 6k would be a bit safer.

I would stick with manufacturers recomendation, but if you feel like you can trust Castrol enough that you would go with their recommendation, then go ahead. As long as them cover you if something like goes wrong, like Mobil 1 does.
