Usually cheaper to just buy the proper appliances.
The exception is small electronic appliances, such as cameras, CD players, computers. Most of those will work over any voltage from 100 to 250 volts, 50 or 60 Hz. But check the documentation. These, you just need a plug adaptor.
No, you would have to buy an adapter (transformer) or have your power outlet modified to 240 volts. The standard in the U.S. 120 AC voltage.

Obviously you would need to connect them to a 240 outlet, but yes.
Finding a 240 outlet in the US is the hard part. They are not common.
Finding one with the proper receptacle would be even harder.
240V 60c/s power is existed in most family home in North America to power cloth dryer and stove.
But it is not suitable to power 240V 50c/s device that made of AC motor ( like drill ),result becomes slower and less torque.
